Recent Solage Calistoga Review: "I was expecting a decent resort-style hotel experience for my dollar, but was a bit apprehensive after reading a few negative reviews. But we had an absolutely fantastic stay here. The room was great, very well appointed and spacious, with modern decor. The sitting area/patio behind our room was a nice touch though it was a bit chilly in the evening at this time of year to use it (outdoor fireplace or heating lamp would be an awesome touch!). The style is distinctly modern - polished concrete floor with rugs over it, lots of angular lines but very comfy furniture. If that doesn't sound like your bag, then you won't be into Solage.
But probably the best part of our stay was our experience at Solbar. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar our first, slightly tired night there and chatted with the very friendly bartender who served us several glasses of outstanding wine. We were so cozy on the comfy bar stools that we stayed there and ordered food at the bar instead of taking a table. The food was absolutely outstanding - don't miss the barbecued pork buns whatever you do, and the flatiron steak with blue cheese potato croquettes was divine. The flatbread with three spreads seems to be popular, and for good reason.
We polished off a bottle of wine during dinner handily. And had a great dessert wine that the bartender recommended to complement the apple crisp we ordered. This was our best dinner experience in Napa, and I'd do it again in a second. Also, this endorsement comes as a New Yorker who regularly frequents some of the best restaurants in the city that's home to some of the world's finest.
This place definitely has the sort of polish, service and particularly food I'd expect from the owners of a famous destination like Auberge du Soleil, targeted at a younger, hipper demographic. I'd both stay at Solage Calistoga again on a future trip, and strongly recommend it to friends."
